Atlantis has been a famous island since 2000 years ago. This island was rich in gold, silver and other precious metals. Its creators were half god and half human. Based on the description of Plato in his writings, many wondered if Atlantis was actually real. Some speculated that the Atlantis may have sank into the Mediterranean Sea, perhaps in Antarctica, or even in Spain.
Atlantis was mentioned in two of the literary works of Plato entitled Timaeus and Critias. Plato was a philosopher from Athens in the ancient Greece. In 360 BC, Altantis was introduced in Timaeus. While in the dialogue of Critias, Atlantis was described as situated near the Straits of Gibraltar.
The story about the Atlantis was set in the highly advanced Utopian civilization, with great naval power. it was where moral and spiritual people turned into greediness and immorality. So the gods became angry. As their punishment the gods sent fire and earthquake which made the Atlantis sink into the sea.
Plato stated that Atlantis was in existence around 9000 years before he was born. Its story however, came from poets and priests but only Plato’s works remain in the books today. It was said to be a legend and a fiction but it was defied by the discovery of one of the crews of Gemini 4 spaceship who noticed a strange image in the midst of the Sahara. He then took the shot of the desert from outer space in 1965. It was further investigated that the photograph matched the Atlantis descriptions of Plato from his writings like its size and its milieu. Therefore, it was confirmed that the Atlantis was not a fiction after all.
